About us

Rueß Family

Dear Krone Guests,

Our establishment looks back on over 180 years of tradition—a long time filled with history and stories. However, especially in the last 40 years, much has changed, and our parents, Otto and Marie-Luise Rueß, have shaped the 'Krone Schnetzenhausen' into what it is today: a welcoming hotel with exceptional staff and wonderful guests. We—the next generation—now wish to continue and further develop our parents' vision. Quality, service, and genuine hospitality are our highest priorities. We also aim to keep the hotel’s offerings and facilities current and engaging.

We look forward to being your hosts,
Yours sincerely,
The Rueß Family

Chronicle

Our history

Johann-Evangelist Schraff, born on September 1, 1776, was a farmer in Schnetzenhausen.

In 1835, he applied to the Kingdom of Württemberg, Tettnang District Office, for a license to operate a tavern. This application was approved, the certificate was issued, and signed on October 20, 1835. Thus, he was granted permission to hang a tavern sign with the name 'Krone' on his establishment.

Franz-Josef Schraff, the son of Johann-Evangelist Schraff, born on April 2, 1841, married Maria Eberle and took over the farm along with the tavern.

Maria Schraff, daughter of Franz-Josef Schraff, born in 1875, married farmer Josef Rueß in 1899.

Albert Rueß, son of Maria and Josef Rueß, born on June 7, 1905, married Ida Hund, born on December 8, 1910. They had four children: Otto Rueß (born August 6, 1937), Renate Großmann, Ida Sauter, and Tina Carle.

Otto Rueß married Marie-Luise Schöttle on May 17, 1967. Otto and Marie-Luise Rueß are the current senior heads of the Krone. Their children are Guido Rueß, Diana Möller, and Simone Leukhardt.

Guido Rueß took over the family business in 2009 and is the current owner and managing director. He is supported by his sister, Diana Möller

Our Natural and Cultural Heritage

The Lake Constance region is known for its beautiful landscape. Lake Constance itself is one of the largest inland lakes in Europe and a significant freshwater reservoir. The shores of the lake are characterized by picturesque towns and villages, surrounded by gentle hills, vineyards, and orchards.

The region is home to diverse flora and fauna. Lake Constance provides a habitat for a variety of waterfowl, fish, and insects. In adjacent nature reserves, such as the Eriskircher Ried, one can observe rare bird species and plants and explore the natural shorelines.

Friedrichshafen was founded in 1811 and is closely linked to the history of Zeppelin airships. The industrialization of Friedrichshafen was largely influenced by Ferdinand von Zeppelin. The count, born in Konstanz, settled the production of his rigid airships, the Zeppelins, here in the late 19th century. On July 2, 1900, the 128-meter-long LZ1 lifted off for the first time. Despite some setbacks, the enthusiasm of the Germans for airships ensured that the entire project continued. The Zeppelin Museum at the port of Friedrichshafen offers a fascinating exhibition on the history of Zeppelins and their significance for aviation.

Schnetzenhausen was first mentioned in 809 as "Snezzinhusin" and is thus 1,000 years older than Friedrichshafen. In the 11th century, the Petershausen Monastery, and after 1200 the Weißenau and Löwental monasteries, as well as the city of Buchhorn, had possessions. On April 1, 1937, Schnetzenhausen was incorporated into Friedrichshafen.

Experience real HeimatGenuss

Ringhotels Hotel Cooperation

For Ringhotels, 'Heimat' (homeland) is more than just a place or origin—it represents the connection between people and place, the character and identity of each establishment, and the feeling of being rooted in one’s surroundings. This regional connection is at the heart of our philosophy. Our core promise is 'Experience Genuine HeimatDelight.' Each privately owned hotel is a true original, where you can feel the personal touch of the hosts and the regional connection. Here, creativity meets tradition. Many of the hotels have been family-run for generations, consistently expressing their ties to the region—whether through the regional and seasonal dishes in the kitchen, the locally inspired ambiance of the spaces, or the daily activities offered.

Our Mission

We rely on the strength of community and support hoteliers in facing the challenges of modern hospitality. Together, we focus on sustainable practices, promote innovation, and support generational transition to ensure not only the preservation but also the growth of our hotels. Our values—trust, commitment, and open communication—are the pillars of our community. We uphold the essence of hospitality, the diversity of German hotels, and foster a vibrant sense of togetherness.
